Dr. Michael R. Fox is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Medicine, and completed residency training at the University of Maryland Hospital in Pediatrics, Adult Psychiatry and Child Psychiatry.  He is a board certified adult and child psychiatrist, a Distinguished Life Fellow in American Psychiatric Association, and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor.  He has written four book chapters and six articles on family empowerment in psychiatry.  He has conducted over 400 national and international workshops on integrating neuropsychiatric and family therapy treatment of severe psychiatric, behavioral and substance abuse disorders in adults and youth.

Dr. Fox directs The Child & Family Institute in Sarasota Florida, which has offices in Tampa, and Ft. Myers, Florida; and provides outpatient psychiatric services for children, adolescents, adults and their families.

From 1979 to 1997, Dr. Fox was Director of The Family Therapy Clinic at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Department of Psychiatry, and continues his appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry.  He also co-directed a multi-discipline private practice specializing in family psychiatry.

From 1997 to 2000, Dr. Fox was an Associate Professor and Director of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinic at University of South Florida, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine.  He continues as a Clinical Associate Professor.

Treatment Approach
Dr. Fox's approach to treatment is based on bio-psycho-social principles, and assumes that successful treatment requires a working collaboration with patients, their family members and other providers to further rapid complete change in a manner which respects the authority of all involved.  He specializes in previous treatment failure, Affective Disorders and Tourette's Disorder.
